Reading: Foundational Skills 4 (Fluency)

Kindergarden
Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.

First Grade

Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.

a. Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.


b. Read grade-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression.

  • Drama: Read with extra expression. Include facial expression and hand gestures. Really try to portray a specific emotion. Readers might also read with a specific character in mind. 
  • Music: Sing karaoke. Use video karaoke songs or hand out lyric sheets and have the students track with fingers, etc.
c. Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary.


Second Grade
